Entangling Stories and Bodies Across York

​

As part of York International Women’s Week, Curiositas is teaming up with Cultivate, a feminist journal based at the University of York, to host a relaxed, creative, drop-in event across the day. This will be part of a programme of events (1st-8th March) organised by York International Women’s Week. www.yorkwomen.org.uk

We’re inviting people from across York to stop by and share short stories, experiences, and reflections from their own lives or from the lives of others who matter to them. These might be memories, reflections, words, wishes, or moments that feel meaningful. You’ll be able to write or draw these onto a simple body-shaped template, using whatever style feels right for you – a single word, a few sentences, a poem, or something more visual.

Everyone is welcome to take part, and we’re especially interested in stories that centre women’s lives in all their diversity. There’s no right or wrong way to contribute, and no pressure to share anything you don’t feel comfortable sharing. You can choose from pre-cut templates or create your own.

In the evening, everyone is warmly invited to join us at SPARK, Piccadilly, whether or not you’ve taken part during the day, to help assemble and “entangle” these stories and figures in a shared act of reflection and celebration. For those who were unable to attend during the day, body templates will also be available here, allowing us to gather as many stories as possible. 

​

The event will be written up in the Curiositas and Cultivate journals, and the figures and stories created during the day will be brought together and entangled on a large shared background. This collective artwork, a festival of bodies and stories, will then be displayed at the two universities, and we hope at other venues across York.
